Download the disk image file and open the Downloads folder. Click on EOSCount.dmg to automatically mount the disk image. Click on EOSCount icon to launch the EOSCount for Mac application. If you use Mac OS X, click the EOS Utility icon registered in the Dock. ok, maybe I'm a bit dense today, but I can't get this to work on my Mac. I'm on IOS 10.6.8 (won't upgrade until I have my mac mini, last upgrade was troublesome on this older MBPro) and even installed an old version of IE, downloaded some eoscount.msi file several times, but how do I use this now? Nothing changed on the homepage of eoscount, do I just attach my 5D3 and it will run by itself? A bit wary of just plugging the camera in...
I'm also trying to run this on a stone old PC laptop with XP, the download button sent me off to download some zip file extractor software first, never got prompted for the activex thing, nothing changed on the home page either.
I have the feeling I'm trying to open a door that says push by pulling...
I saw the other option with some ubuntu and whatnot, goes beyond what I know about my mac. I just want to find out the shutter count on my new refurb 5D3...
Thanks for any pointers, I'll keep digging and trying in the mean time....
Oliver
EDIT: nevermind, finally got it working on the stone old PC laptop, had to use firefox, IE never worked, but FFox with the IE plugin did (go figure) and I got the shutter count of my refurb 5D3:
A whopping 7! That's SEVEN. aka as brand new. Very happy, money well spent on the counter and getting the camera with over 1k in savings is quite nice as well. Pretty much got my Tamron 24-70 for free
Thanks for offering this service, took a while to get it going on the old and slow laptop, but hey, worth it. Also tried the sofware from astrojargon, never saw my 5D3 but gave me the shutter count for my 40D at 16319, plausible since the new shutter was installed.

Have you ever wondered how to find the shutter count from your Canon? Since the days of Canon EOS 1Dn II and 1Ds II Canon hides the shutter count inside the camera. That means you either need to send the camera to Canon or use a 3rd part software. Uploading an image to a webpage to get the shutter count doesn’t work with Canon cameras post EOS 1Dn II/EOS 1Ds II.

Do you wonder if the software below will show you the correct shutter count? Well, I have sent my 6D and 7D to Canon and the shutter counts I got from Canon are the same as I got from Magic Lantern, But Magic Lantern also showed me the Live view count.

What does EOSCount do? EOSCount shows Canon EOS DSLR camera information (serial number, owner/artist names, copyright, firmware version, camera time), allows time synchronization with a Mac, and displays optional shutter count (pay-per-use feature). Canon Shutter Count - EOSCount (Windows and Mac) shutter count and more for your canon eos dslr. EOSCount allows you to read a shutter counter from a Canon EOS DSLR (DIGIC III and later) camera. It can also sync a camera clock to your PC's clock. EosCount.com also costs money. ASSIST (free) For Powershot and Ixus (and Canon EOS M3).

Anyway, here are some links to different software with the ability to show you the shutter count. If you find it hard to find your camera model, use the search tool in your browser and type your Canon model. If you own a Rebel camera, use Wikipedia to get the European/international model name.
